South Korea Export Growth Cools but AI Chip Boom Keeps Outlook Firm

Seoul, 30 July 2026 – South Korea’s export growth is expected to ease from June’s extraordinary pace, but strong demand for semiconductors should keep the trade engine expanding and provide an important cushion for Asia’s fourth-largest economy.

June exports exceeded US$100 billion for the first time, powered by a near-tripling in semiconductor shipments as global artificial-intelligence investment lifted memory prices and demand for advanced chips. Early July customs data remained exceptionally strong, with exports in the first 20 days rising more than 50 per cent from a year earlier.
