Snowflake Expands Malaysian Presence with Local AWS Deployment to Strengthen Data Sovereignty

Kuala Lumpur, 09 October 2025 – Snowflake, the AI Data Cloud company, today announced plans to expand its presence in Malaysia with the deployment of a local instance in the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region. This move reinforces Snowflake’s commitment to its Malaysian customers by offering greater proximity to their data, strengthening data governance, and advancing data sovereignty efforts.

The new instance, expected to go live in the first half of 2026, will enable Snowflake customers in Malaysia to securely store and process their data onshore while continuing to benefit from the flexibility and scalability of the Snowflake AI Data Cloud. Its near-instant elasticity will allow more organisations, both public and private, to scale their operations and leverage Snowflake’s growing suite of artificial intelligence tools and services.

“With data sovereignty becoming an increasing priority, and Malaysia’s National Cloud Computing Policy now in effect, customers need confidence that their data remains onshore,” said Satchit Joglekar, Managing Director, Snowflake ASEAN.

“Today’s announcement marks a key milestone in strengthening compliance and security capabilities while reducing latency. It enables our customers across sectors, from the public sector and enterprises to healthcare and financial services, to innovate faster and more securely. It also reflects our long-term commitment to Malaysia and our partnership with AWS.”

Kirsten Gilbertson, Partner Organisation Leader, AWS ASEAN, added, “In today’s AI-driven economy, data and innovation are critical foundations for a strong digital ecosystem. The planned launch of Snowflake in the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region will empower Malaysian organisations to confidently explore new possibilities with data, supported by world-class cloud and AI capabilities. This collaboration will offer customers more choice and flexibility in how they innovate, while ensuring they meet stringent data residency requirements.”

Customers and partners have welcomed the announcement, including ADA, GXBank, and Hextech Vision Sdn Bhd, all of which are already leveraging Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud in Malaysia.

“Snowflake’s advanced platform serves as a single source of truth at MoneyX, where we unify customer and business data across every touchpoint to deliver real-time insights,” said Dato’ Eddie Ong Choo Meng, Chief Executive Officer of Hextech.

“With the upcoming Snowflake deployment on AWS Malaysia, we will benefit from guaranteed data residency, a key advantage for our industry, while achieving lower latency. This will enable us to deliver personalised financial solutions to customers with greater speed and precision.”

Srinivas Gattamneni, CEO of ADA, said, “Snowflake powers several of ADA’s key industry solutions, from Customer 360 and Intelligent Commerce to our data and AI accelerators that drive identity, personalisation, and end-to-end e-commerce.

These help our clients achieve measurable ROI. With the new Malaysia region, we look forward to delivering these solutions with lower latency and full data residency, a crucial advantage for sectors such as BFSI, telecommunications, and healthcare, while positioning Malaysia as a hub for AI-driven commerce across ASEAN.”
