Singapore, 25 August 2026 – A Singapore student’s response to household allergies offers a small but instructive example of how applied engineering skills can grow from an everyday problem. Seventeen-year-old Sahana Ramaprasad built an air-quality monitor after noticing that dust triggered allergic reactions for her and her sister, turning personal need into a working technology project.
The device connects a sensor to a microchip and sends readings to an Internet of Things platform. It allows the user to view particulate concentrations and an estimated air-quality index, helping the family decide when to close windows, clean more thoroughly or reduce time in dusty surroundings. The monitor does not eliminate allergies, but it supports more informed preventive action.
