Berne, 2 October 2026 – Singapore has launched Sentinel, the first of four new offshore patrol vessels intended to strengthen maritime security operations and provide greater flexibility against emerging threats. The vessel entered the water at the Fassmer shipyard in Berne, Germany, on 1 October and will now undergo platform acceptance and sea trials before departing for Singapore.
The launch is a significant milestone in the Republic of Singapore Navy’s replacement of its existing Sentinel-class Maritime Security and Response Vessels. The new ships are purpose-built government vessels designed for a wider scope of security missions, including the protection of territorial waters and coordinated operations with the Police Coast Guard and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. The remaining three vessels are under construction, with progressive delivery scheduled from 2028.
