Bangkok, 2 September 2026 – Singapore and Thailand have signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation in social-sector development, placing welfare policy and institutional capacity alongside trade, technology and energy in their bilateral agenda. The agreement was concluded during the countries’ revived Leaders’ Retreat, the first such meeting in more than a decade. It covers personnel exchanges, knowledge sharing, research on social-welfare programmes, institutional visits, workshops and training, with scope for further cooperation involving families, women and social development.
The pact was signed by Singapore’s Social and Family Development Minister Masagos Zulkifli and Thailand’s Social Development and Human Security Minister Nikorn Soemklang. Prime Ministers Lawrence Wong and Anutin Charnvirakul framed stronger people-to-people links as an essential foundation for wider connectivity. Their meeting also restored a leadership platform last held in 2015, giving both governments a regular channel to review implementation rather than relying on one-off announcements.
