Sepang, 2 October 2026 – Formula One’s return to Malaysia through a one-off Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit gives the country a rare opportunity to test the commercial value of top-tier motorsport without assuming the full hosting burden of a permanent calendar slot. The race weekend, scheduled from 2 to 4 October with the main event on 4 October, is expected to draw travelling fans and create spillover demand for hotels, aviation, retail and food services.
The arrangement differs materially from reviving a Malaysian Grand Prix. Bahrain’s event is being staged at Sepang, and the Malaysian side is not paying a conventional Formula One hosting fee. That lowers public-sector exposure and turns the weekend into a practical measure of demand. It also allows tourism agencies and businesses to assess whether visiting spectators extend their stays, travel beyond the circuit and spend across the wider economy.
