Perak, 1 October 2026 – SD Guthrie’s plan to develop renewable-energy assets on suitable plantation land has gained a more concrete commercial lead: a joint venture has signed a term sheet for a proposed 680-megawatt solar supply project in Perak. The prospective customer is a US-based technology company that would use the power for a data centre. A term sheet signals progress, but it is not the same as completed construction or an operating power-sales contract.
The proposed project sits within a broader partnership between SD Guthrie and Gamuda to develop, own and operate up to 1.2 gigawatts of solar assets. The project company, G3nerasi Kinta, brings together SD Guthrie Renewable Energy, Gamuda Energy and Gentari Renewables. The parties expect commercial operations in 2029 under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme, subject to the approvals, financing and construction steps still required.
