KYIV, Ukraine: Both Kyiv and Moscow carried out drone attacks against each other on Sunday, just a day before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to visit the United States for talks with President Donald Trump on ending the three-year war with Russia.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, intense fighting has continued on the ground. Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 60 Iranian-made Shahed drones, other unmanned aircraft, and an Iskander missile.
In eastern Donetsk, regional governor Vadym Filashkin said Russian strikes killed five civilians on Saturday.
Russia’s defence ministry, meanwhile, claimed Ukraine targeted the country with 46 drones, mainly over border regions but also as far as Nizhny Novgorod, located hundreds of kilometres east of Moscow.
In the border Kursk region, acting governor Alexander Khinstein reported that a Ukrainian drone killed a man in his car, while Voronezh governor Alexander Gusev said a railway worker was injured in another strike.
