Ringgit’s ASEAN Gains Mask a Firmer US Dollar Risk

Kuala Lumpur, 6 October 2026 – The ringgit strengthened against most ASEAN peers while slipping modestly against the US dollar, highlighting how Malaysia’s currency can outperform regionally even as global risk aversion directs capital towards the world’s main reserve currency.

At 6pm on Monday, the ringgit eased to 4.0845/0890 against the US dollar from 4.0820/0870 at the previous close. It gained against the Singapore dollar to 3.1905/1943 from 3.1908/1952 and strengthened against the Thai baht to 12.1234/1411 from 12.1579/1778. It also edged higher against the Indonesian rupiah while remaining broadly unchanged against the Philippine peso.
