Beijing, 31 July 2026 – China’s offshore yuan advanced to its strongest level in about three years after Beijing signalled support for currency stability, extending a move that is reshaping expectations across Asian foreign-exchange markets. The appreciation suggests policymakers are more comfortable with a firmer exchange rate, even as they seek to protect exporters and domestic growth.
The offshore market is closely watched because it reflects international demand for the renminbi beyond the mainland’s managed trading system. A stronger official reference rate can communicate policy tolerance for appreciation, while market gains may also reflect a softer US dollar, improving capital-flow sentiment and reduced demand for defensive currency positions.
