Sydney, Australia, 17 August 2026 – New South Wales is offering data-centre developers a faster approval pathway in exchange for stronger commitments on energy, water, jobs and community infrastructure, signalling a more conditional approach to one of the state’s fastest-growing investment sectors.
Projects that comply with the new guidelines are promised assessment within 75 days. To qualify, developers must meet environmental and efficiency standards, avoid imposing net costs on consumers, fund additional water and energy supply, support skills training and contribute to local infrastructure and future industries. Proposals that fall outside the framework remain exposed to refusal under the normal assessment process.
