Mumbai, 24 September 2026 – Shares of the National Stock Exchange of India began trading on rival BSE at a modest premium to their offer price, giving investors an early test of how they value one of the country’s central market institutions. The subdued opening followed an initial public offering worth about US$2.4 billion, but the small first-day gain is not a verdict on the exchange’s longer-term earnings capacity.
NSE stock opened at 1,800 rupees a share, compared with an IPO price of 1,785 rupees, an increase of 15 rupees or roughly 0.84%. The issue comprised an offer for sale of 12.64 crore existing shares and did not raise fresh capital for the company, according to the reported offer details. For an investor allotted an eight-share lot, the opening-price gain equalled 120 rupees before transaction costs. Those figures describe the listing price, not a guaranteed return at the close.
