Microsoft, Lightstorm To Build India-Southeast Asia Cable As AI Infrastructure Race Intensifies

Singapore, 2 July 2026 – Microsoft and Singapore-based Lightstorm are moving to strengthen digital connectivity between India and Southeast Asia through a new undersea cable system, as global technology companies accelerate infrastructure investment to support artificial intelligence, cloud computing and hyperscale data demand.

The planned I-2SEA cable will link India with Malaysia and Singapore, creating another strategic data corridor across one of Asia’s fastest-growing digital regions. The consortium behind the project includes Microsoft, Lightstorm, Tata Communications, Singapore Telecommunications, ASEAN Cableship and Japan’s NEC Corporation.
