Malaysia’s Second-Half Outlook Rests on Domestic Demand and Investment

Kuala Lumpur, 1 August 2026 – Malaysia entered the second half of 2026 with firmer momentum than a year earlier, but the quality and durability of growth will depend on domestic demand, investment execution and the economy’s ability to absorb external energy and trade shocks.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said first-half growth reached an estimated 5.6%, compared with 4.5% in the same period of 2025. The second-quarter advance estimate was 5.8%, following 5.4% in the first quarter, with services and manufacturing expanding and mining and quarrying returning to growth. Construction activity also continued to advance.
