Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 28 July 2026 – Malaysian authorities are seeking an appropriate placement for 113 refugees who cannot be housed in Immigration detention depots, highlighting the operational gap between humanitarian protection, public-order enforcement and the country’s existing migration framework.
The group includes 110 Rohingya refugees, along with one Iraqi man, one Somali woman and one Indonesian woman married to a Rohingya refugee. Police and humanitarian representatives completed documentation checks after the group was moved to the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters for temporary supervision.
