Kuala Lumpur, 13 August 2026 – Malaysia will adopt the ASEAN Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance as the foundation of its national taxonomy, advancing regional consistency in how financial institutions, businesses and investors classify sustainable and transitional economic activities.
The decision emerged from the 17th meeting of the Joint Committee on Climate Change, or JC3, held on 6 August. Co-chaired by Bank Negara Malaysia and the Securities Commission Malaysia, the committee identified energy transition, flood resilience and more effective measurement of climate outcomes as immediate priorities for the financial sector.
