Putrajaya, 24 September 2026 – Malaysia’s communications regulator and police are intensifying their joint work against online child sexual exploitation, placing renewed scrutiny on the systems that digital platforms use to identify abuse, retain evidence and respond to investigators. The announcement is a public-safety development, but it also has consequences for technology operators and investors assessing the cost of compliance in the country’s digital market.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission would continue to provide technical and forensic assistance to the police, particularly the D11 unit responsible for sexual, women and child investigations. The cooperation is intended to trace misuse of network services and support criminal cases. His comments describe a continuing operational partnership; they are not an announcement that the regulator itself has taken over police investigative powers.
