Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 28 July 2026 – Malaysia has approved RM1.7 billion under the 13th Malaysia Plan to replace about 1,800 kilometres of critical water pipelines between 2026 and 2030, targeting ageing assets that contribute to supply disruptions and treated-water losses.
The national programme will prioritise asbestos-cement pipes and other pipelines that have exceeded their design life. Replacement work will be carried out in phases, with safety requirements applying to the handling of materials that can release hazardous dust when disturbed.
