LONDON, 15 January 2026 — The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has unveiled a new digital settlement platform built on blockchain technology, marking another major step in its strategy to digitise capital markets infrastructure and improve settlement efficiency across asset classes.
The newly launched system, part of LSEG’s broader blockchain push, aims to modernise how trades are settled by applying distributed ledger technology (DLT) to enable faster, more transparent and potentially lower-cost clearing and settlement processes. The platform reflects the exchange group’s response to growing industry demand for digital settlement solutions and tokenised market infrastructure.
The move builds on LSEG’s earlier efforts, most notably the rollout of its Digital Markets Infrastructure (DMI) platform last year, which was designed to support complete asset lifecycles for tokenised private funds, from issuance and tokenisation through to post-trade settlement and servicing.
LSEG’s blockchain initiative has been developed in partnership with major technology firms and is aimed at bridging traditional financial markets with digital asset technologies while maintaining regulatory compliance and interoperability with existing market infrastructure. Early implementations of DMI already saw private fund managers such as MembersCap use blockchain settlement capabilities for fundraising, signalling institutional interest in the new approach.
Industry observers note that blockchain-enabled settlement has the potential to dramatically shorten clearing cycles, improve transparency and reduce operational frictions compared with legacy systems that often require multiple intermediaries and days of reconciliation. As global financial firms and central banks also explore blockchain for payments and cross-border settlement, LSEG’s platform could help position London as a leading hub for digital-native market infrastructure.
The launch aligns with a wider trend in traditional finance to adopt DLT for post-trade workflows, as firms seek to unlock efficiencies and attract liquidity by blending regulated markets with blockchain-based solutions.
