UNITED STATES, 23 October 2025 – Pop star Lizzo is facing a copyright lawsuit over a short clip of an unreleased song that went viral on social media, partly because it included a line referencing actress Sydney Sweeney.

The lawsuit was filed by a company called The GRC Trust, which claims Lizzo and her label, Atlantic Records, used a piece of their copyrighted music without permission.

The song, which fans tentatively call “I’m Goin’ In Till October,” was teased by Lizzo on platforms like Instagram and TikTok in August.

It quickly gained attention because Lizzo included a line about actress Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle jeans ads: “Bitch, I got good jeans like I’m Sydney.”

The GRC Trust claims that Lizzo’s unreleased track sampled “instrumental and vocal elements” from their 1970s song, “Win or Lose (We Tried).”

Lizzo’s representatives have said they are “surprised” by the lawsuit. They stress that the song has never been officially released or sold and has not made any money.

However, GRC Trust claims that Lizzo and her label still benefited from the song’s widespread exposure online.

They are asking the court to stop the distribution of the song and are seeking money for profits and damages.

Attempts to solve the problem privately before the lawsuit failed. Lizzo has since removed the song snippet from her social media pages.
