Tokyo, Japan, 17 August 2026 – Japan’s economy expanded at an annualised rate of 1.1 per cent in the April-to-June quarter, maintaining growth but falling short of the 2.0 per cent median market forecast.
On a quarter-to-quarter basis, gross domestic product increased 0.3 per cent, compared with an expected 0.5 per cent rise. The gap between the result and forecast points to softer momentum than investors had priced, even though the economy avoided contraction.
