High AI Adoption and Strong Insurance Uptake Reshape Malaysia’s Travel Landscape, Redion Study Finds

Kuala Lumpur, 18 August 2026 – Malaysian travelers are transforming the regional tourism sector by combining rapid artificial intelligence adoption with heightened risk awareness and comprehensive insurance uptake, according to the 25th edition of the Holiday Barometer 2026 report released by global assistance and travel insurance specialist Redion.

The comprehensive study, conducted in partnership with research firm Ipsos across 26,000 respondents in 26 countries, reveals that Malaysia has recorded the highest AI adoption rate for travel in East Asia. More than half of Malaysian respondents, or 54 percent, utilize AI tools to plan or book their holiday trips, marking a notable increase over the previous year and outpacing peers across Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan. Travelers primarily employ AI as an integrated platform to research destinations, compare travel options, and manage complex itineraries.
