Govt Allocates RM8.4mil for Jalur Gemilang Badges for Over 5 Million Students

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has set aside RM8.4 million to supply Jalur Gemilang badges to about 5.14 million students in schools, Matriculation Colleges, Form Six Colleges, and teacher training institutes (IPG).

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said each student would receive two badges free of charge as part of efforts to instill patriotism and love for the country from a young age.

“The allocation was channelled to all state education departments and relevant institutions in February, with quantities based on student enrolment.

“Procurement is handled by state education departments, district education offices, and institutions via the eProcurement system, either through tenders or quotations. To speed up supply and widen participation, zone-based procurement was also allowed, involving 91 suppliers nationwide,” she explained in a written parliamentary reply.

Fadhlina was responding to Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PAS–Kuala Krai) on government spending for supplying Jalur Gemilang badges to students in Education Ministry institutions.

Addressing concerns over student safety and uniform damage, Fadhlina said the ministry has issued guidelines on wearing the badges, while giving parents the option to provide additional badges of the same size and made from appropriate materials.

“The ministry will continue monitoring the flexible implementation of badge-wearing at all education levels. This initiative aims to nurture patriotism and foster love for the country within the Madani generation,” she said.

Starting April 21, all public school students are required to wear the national flag badge on their uniforms, following a March 24 circular by Education Director-General Azman Adnan. The badge must measure 5cm by 2.5cm and be worn on the right side of the chest.
