Sydney, 8 September 2026 – Australian artificial-intelligence infrastructure company Firmus has signed a multi-year partnership under which OpenAI will contract dedicated computing capacity from two AI-factory sites in Malaysia. The agreement makes OpenAI an anchor customer and lifts Firmus’s total contracted capacity across its customer portfolio to more than 900 megawatts, strengthening the commercial foundation for a wider regional expansion.
Firmus said the Malaysian facilities would help meet rising demand for OpenAI products across Asia-Pacific and international markets. The arrangement is significant because anchor customers can improve the financeability of capital-intensive data-centre developments by providing long-duration demand visibility. However, contracted capacity should not be confused with operational capacity: the company currently has two sites running, while five more are under development and targeted to become service-ready over the next 24 months.
