KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 16): Several more individuals have been detained under Op Northern Star in connection with the investment fraud scheme involving MBI International Group.

Bukit Aman’s Anti-Money Laundering Criminal Investigation Team chief, Datuk Muhammed Hasbullah Ali, confirmed the arrests when contacted, noting that those apprehended included individuals bearing the title “Datuk Seri”.

He added that further details on the latest operation would be announced by Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail soon.

On May 30, Muhammed Hasbullah disclosed that 17 individuals had been arrested in relation to the MBI investment fraud case, with assets worth RM3.81 billion seized and frozen.

Among those detained earlier were businessmen holding the titles “Tan Sri” and “Datuk Seri”, believed to be proxies and associates in the fraudulent scheme. The arrests took place across the Klang Valley and northern states under Op Northern Star.
