Beijing, 6 October 2026 – China’s artificial-intelligence industry is confronting a new commercial problem as increasingly frequent model releases make it harder for individual upgrades to command attention, recover development costs or build durable customer loyalty. The pressure reflects an accelerating global cycle in which Chinese and American developers are releasing frontier and specialised systems within hours or days of one another.

A concentrated burst on 22 September illustrated the pace. Xiaomi engineers streamed training work on the MiMo-V2.6 model, Anthropic introduced Opus 5.5 and OpenAI released GPT-6 Sol and Luna shortly afterwards. Those launches followed upgrades from Z.ai, DeepSeek, Tencent, Alibaba and Moonshot AI, compressing the period during which any single model can dominate developer discussion or enterprise evaluation.
