TERENGGANU, 24 October 2025 — Bursa Malaysia Berhad has launched its new ‘Skuad ANTI-SCAM’ initiative at the Bursa Marketplace Fair 2025 in Kuala Terengganu, marking a bold step in the Exchange’s nationwide effort to combat financial scams through youth empowerment and community education.
The initiative, part of the Exchange’s Bursa Smart Moves programme, was officiated by Dato’ Tun Ahmad Faisal bin Tun Abdul Razak, Director of the Terengganu State Land and Mines Department, alongside Stephanie Tan Kar Mun, Bursa Malaysia’s Director of Group Commercial & Market Coverage, Noorsuriani Muhamed, Acting Director of Islamic Capital Market, and Dr. Nor Mazlina Abu Bakar, representing Professor Dr. Syamsul Azri Abdul Rahman from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA).

Empowering the Next Generation
At the event, Bursa Malaysia announced that UniSZA will be the first university to participate in the initiative, with 100 students to be trained as scam-awareness ambassadors. These ambassadors will undergo training on financial literacy, scam identification and fraud-prevention techniques — equipping them to lead outreach programmes targeting 1,000 individuals across Terengganu, including senior citizens, retirees and novice investors.
The outreach will include:
- Community engagement sessions;
- Distribution of educational brochures and scam-prevention guides; and
- Digital-awareness campaigns through social media and messaging platforms.
The first wave of outreach campaigns is scheduled to begin in December 2025, with completion targeted by February 2026.
Education as Protection
“Financial education is a form of protection,” said Stephanie Tan Kar Mun, Director of Group Commercial & Market Coverage at Bursa Malaysia.
“By empowering communities with knowledge, we enable individuals to make informed decisions and reduce their vulnerability to increasingly sophisticated financial scams.”
She added that the ‘Skuad ANTI-SCAM’ reflects Bursa Malaysia’s belief that lasting change requires collaboration between institutions, youth and local communities.

Community Collaboration for Safer Investing
Through its partnership with UniSZA and local agencies, Bursa Malaysia aims to foster grassroots awareness on scam prevention. The Exchange emphasised that early education and vigilance are key to mitigating financial crime, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where digital-finance adoption is rising.
Large crowds attended the Bursa Marketplace Fair 2025, exploring investment-education activities, workshops and exhibitions held in collaboration with industry partners.
Commitment to Financial Integrity
The ‘Skuad ANTI-SCAM’ initiative reinforces Bursa Malaysia’s commitment to supporting national efforts to protect investors and promote sustainable, informed participation in the capital market.
By combining youth activism, digital outreach and institutional collaboration, Bursa Malaysia seeks to create an ecosystem of vigilance, where financial literacy acts as the first line of defence against fraud.
