Kuala Lumpur, 8 October 2026 – Bursa Malaysia opened on a cautious note as investors stayed largely on the sidelines before the tabling of Budget 2027, while rising global bond yields continued to restrain appetite for equities. The benchmark FBM KLCI was unchanged at 1,611.78 at 9.02am, following a sharp decline in the previous session and signalling that traders were reluctant to take large positions before fresh fiscal guidance.
The flat opening concealed weakness in several heavyweight counters. CIMB Group fell eight sen to RM7.27, Gamuda declined four sen to RM5.04 and Hong Leong Bank eased four sen to RM21.46. Those moves matter because financial institutions, construction groups and other domestically exposed companies are among the sectors most sensitive to budget measures, public investment priorities and changes in household or corporate incentives.
