Bursa Malaysia and FTSE Russell to Expand FBMKLCI to 50 Constituents in Historic Benchmark Overhaul

Kuala Lumpur, 20 August 2026 – Bursa Malaysia Berhad and global index provider FTSE Russell have announced a landmark methodology enhancement to Malaysia’s benchmark equity indices, expanding the flagship FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBMKLCI) from 30 to 50 constituents to better capture the nation’s economic diversification and industrial growth.

The structural overhaul represents the first major methodology revision to Malaysia’s primary stock market benchmark in 17 years, following the July 2009 transition from the legacy 100-stock Kuala Lumpur Composite Index to the 30-constituent FBMKLCI framework.
