Asian stocks advanced as weak US employment growth reduced expectations of another immediate Federal Reserve rate hike, with Japan’s Nikkei leading regional gains.

Tokyo, 5 October 2026 – Asian equities started the week on stronger footing as a sharp slowdown in US employment growth reduced expectations of an immediate Federal Reserve interest-rate increase, giving investors renewed appetite for technology and other risk assets.

Japan led the regional advance, with the Nikkei 225 jumping about 2% in early trading, driven by electronics and machinery stocks. Advantest gained around 4%, while Mitsubishi Heavy Industries advanced approximately 2.5%. The Wall Street Journal
