Hong Kong, 29 September 2026 – Asian equity markets were mostly lower in Tuesday trading as higher oil prices and elevated US bond yields sharpened the inflation and financing questions facing investors. The regional trading snapshot showed weakness across several major bourses, but it was not a uniform sell-off. Shanghai and Australia edged higher, underscoring the difference between a broad risk-off mood and a synchronized decline.
The preceding US session set a cautious tone. The S&P 500 fell 0.8%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.7% and the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.9% on Monday. By early Tuesday, the benchmark 10-year US Treasury yield was around 5.23%, after reaching 5.27% on Monday, compared with approximately 5.17% the previous Friday. Those time-specific readings matter: bond yields and index levels can change quickly, so they should not be presented as closing prices for the Asian session.
