ASEAN Cyberscam Crackdown Becomes an Economic Security Test

Jakarta, 13 August 2026 – Southeast Asian governments are moving towards a more coordinated response to cyberscam networks as online fraud, human trafficking and money laundering evolve from a law-enforcement problem into a regional economic-security threat.

An international estimate placed global losses from cyber scammers at between US$88.3 billion and US$114.1 billion in 2025. Artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, encrypted communications and deepfake technology have lowered operating costs and made criminal networks harder to detect across borders.
