Mumbai, 18 September 2026 – Apple is preparing to introduce Apple Pay in India next month through Axis Bank credit cards, according to three people familiar with the discussions. The reported plan would give the technology group a starting point in a major payments market, but it remains distinct from an officially announced or completed launch.
Discussions with HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank are also continuing, although commercial terms have not been agreed, according to two of the people. Apple and HDFC did not respond to requests for comment, while Axis and ICICI declined to comment. Investors should therefore treat the October timing and initial partnership as reported plans rather than confirmed commitments.
