Alibaba’s Qwen Passes 3 Billion Downloads as Open-Model Competition Intensifies

Hangzhou, 16 August 2026 – Alibaba’s Qwen model family surpassed 3 billion downloads over six months. The company has released more than 460 models and says developers created over 300,000 derivatives.

An ecosystem assessment separately counted at least 113,000 Qwen derivatives and more than 200,000 repositories tagging the family. Reported 2026 download comparisons put Google at 418 million and Meta at 227 million.
