AI and Semiconductor Boom Positions Malaysia as Asia’s Growth Standout

Kuala Lumpur, 3 August 2026 – Malaysia is emerging as one of Asia’s stronger growth performers as rising demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure, semiconductors and data centres strengthens exports, manufacturing and private investment.

The country’s economy is expected to expand between 4% and 5% in 2026, with several forecasts moving towards the upper end of that range. The Asean+3 Macroeconomic Research Office recently raised its Malaysia growth projection to 4.9% from 4.6%, citing stronger exports, sustained data-centre investment and improving industrial activity.
