Scoot Expands Malaysian Network with New Kota Bharu Route

KUALA LUMPUR, 26 October 2025 — Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA), has launched its inaugural flight service to Kota Bharu, further expanding its footprint in Malaysia. With this addition, Scoot now serves 12 destinations across the country, including Ipoh, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Kuantan, Langkawi, Malacca, Miri, Penang, Sibu and Subang.

The new Kota Bharu–Singapore service will operate twice weekly using the Embraer E190-E2 aircraft. The 112-seater jet, configured in a comfortable 2-2 layout, offers quieter engines, spacious cabin windows, and an enhanced onboard experience for travellers.

To mark the milestone, Tourism Malaysia and local airport authorities hosted a special welcome ceremony at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport. Passengers arriving on the inaugural flight were greeted with a lively cultural performance and presented with commemorative gifts.

“We are excited to launch flights to Kota Bharu, strengthening Scoot’s presence across Malaysia and enhancing regional connectivity,” said Calvin Chan, Chief Commercial Officer of Scoot.

“For locals and residents on Malaysia’s east coast, this new route will offer greater convenience in travelling to Singapore and connecting to the wider SIA Group network. We look forward to working with trade and tourism partners to drive inbound travel to Malaysia.”

One-way Economy Class fares from Kota Bharu to Singapore start from MYR125, inclusive of taxes, and are available for booking via Scoot’s website, mobile app, and authorised agents.

The launch of this route highlights Scoot’s strategic commitment to expanding its regional network in Southeast Asia, catering to rising demand for affordable cross-border air travel. The new connection is expected to stimulate both leisure and business travel between the east coast of Malaysia and Singapore, benefitting local tourism operators and SMEs in Kelantan.

Since its inception, Scoot has steadily grown its presence in Malaysia, now one of its most important markets outside Singapore. The addition of Kota Bharu reflects the airline’s confidence in Malaysia’s domestic tourism recovery and its role as a regional hub for connectivity within ASEAN. With more routes in the pipeline, Scoot continues to strengthen ties between Malaysia and the broader SIA Group network.
