Malaysian Films ‘Walid’ & ‘Mencari Ramlee’ Head To India-ASEAN Film Festival 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 October 2025 – Two Malaysian films, Walid and Mencari Ramlee, have been selected to represent the country at the India-ASEAN Film Festival 2025.

The festival is currently taking place in Chennai, India, and runs until October 18.

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Chennai confirmed that the festival aims to strengthen cultural ties between ASEAN member states and India through cinema.

The action-packed film Walid, which is about a teacher searching for his kidnapped students, was screened on October 16.

The second film, ‘Mencari Ramlee’ (Finding Ramlee), was scheduled to be shown on October 17. Malaysia is hosting the event this year as the Chair of ASEAN 2025, in celebration of the ASEAN-India Year of Tourism.

The Consul General of Malaysia in Chennai noted that the festival honors the creativity of filmmakers and reaffirms the shared commitment to deepening cultural and tourism connections between ASEAN and India.

The director of Mencari Ramlee and other industry officials were expected to attend the event.
