Liverpool Edges Everton 2-1 to Keep Perfect Premier League Run

By Jack & Roses1 min read

Liverpool, 20 September 2025 — Liverpool secured a narrow but hard-fought 2-1 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield, extending their perfect run in the Premier League. After five matches, they remain unbeaten, while Everton suffered their second loss of the season.

Liverpool drew first blood early. In the 10th minute, Ryan Gravenberch fired home a skilful finish from a threaded pass by Mohamed Salah. Twenty minutes later, Hugo Ekitiké doubled the lead with a composed finish through Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s legs, set up again by Gravenberch.

Everton responded after halftime. In the 58th minute, Idrissa Gueye cut the deficit with a well-struck shot into the far corner, following a build-up involving Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish. Although Everton piled on the pressure, they couldn’t find an equalizer. Liverpool’s defence held firm in the closing stages despite moments of anxiety for the home crowd.

The win was particularly notable as Liverpool showed strong control in the first half and avoided having to rely on late dramatics, unlike in some previous outings. Everton, for their part, improved after the break but were unable to break through.
