Seoul, South Korea, 3 November 2026 – South Korea’s consumer prices rose 2.8% in October from a year earlier, government data released on 3 November showed, easing from September’s 2.9% increase. The consumer price index also rose 0.2% from the previous month, compared with a 0.3% monthly gain in September, leaving annual inflation above the Bank of Korea’s 2% target.
For Asian businesses and investors, the figures point to slower price growth rather than a return to the 2% target or falling prices. The moderation offers some relief, but expectations of further interest-rate increases remain in place amid elevated energy costs and household borrowing. Those expectations are forecasts, not a new policy decision announced with the inflation data.
