Beijing, 2 November 2026 – China’s central bank is preparing additional liquidity support for its equity market following a sharp decline in share prices during October.
The People’s Bank of China announced operations under its Securities, Funds and Insurance Companies Swap Facility, scheduled for 3 November.
The mechanism could provide more than 100 billion yuan, approximately US$15 billion, in liquidity to eligible financial institutions.
The announcement follows an 8.5% decline in China’s CSI 300 Index during October, its weakest monthly performance since early 2016. The Shanghai Composite Index rose 1.1% on 2 November as investors anticipated policy support.
However, the latest intervention raises an important question. Can additional liquidity restore lasting market confidence when investors remain concerned about underlying economic conditions?
