Kuala Lumpur, 25 October 2026 – Malaysia has received an expression of interest from an international investor proposing to invest US$50 billion, approximately RM204 billion, in artificial intelligence, technology and data centre development.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim disclosed the proposal on 24 October, saying the investor had communicated its intentions during a video conference earlier in the week.
The potential investment would involve Kuching, Sarawak, and locations in Peninsular Malaysia. At this stage, however, the investor has not been publicly identified in the reported announcement.
Neither have detailed financing arrangements or a confirmed implementation schedule been disclosed. The size of the proposal is striking.
But its economic significance depends on information that remains unavailable.
