Kuala Lumpur, 19 October 2026 – Public Bank Berhad could record an unrealised gain of about RM521 million if Japan’s MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings proceeds with a purchase of the bank’s 44.15% stake in LPI Capital Berhad. Public Bank acquired the holding in December 2024 for RM1.72 billion, or RM9.80 a share, and it was valued at about RM2.24 billion at RM12.76 a share.

For shareholders, the potential gain is financially meaningful but remains hypothetical until transaction terms and regulatory approvals are confirmed. A sale could release capital and crystallise value, while also removing Public Bank’s share of recurring earnings and strategic influence over LPI’s Lonpac Insurance business. The net effect therefore extends beyond the headline gain.
