Kuala Lumpur, 16 October 2026 – Malaysia’s economy continued growing in the third quarter of 2026, but the latest figures reveal an important difference between the national picture and individual industries.
According to advance estimates released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) on 16 October, the economy expanded by 5.3% year on year, compared with 6.0% in the second quarter.
The result indicates continued expansion, supported by manufacturing, services and construction.
But not every sector experienced the same momentum.
Manufacturing grew by 7.5%, while mining and quarrying contracted by 4.9%.
The contrast is a reminder that a growing economy does not mean every industry is growing alongside it.
