Kuala Lumpur, 12 October 2026 – The ringgit opened marginally firmer against the US dollar after Budget 2027 set out a narrower fiscal-deficit target, giving currency investors another reason to assess Malaysia’s policy credibility against an unsettled global backdrop. The local currency began trading at 4.0820/4.0880 per dollar, compared with 4.0830/4.0875 at the previous close.

The move was small, and it should not be mistaken for a decisive market repricing. Its significance lies in the policy signal behind it.
