Kuala Lumpur, 10 October 2026 – World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur Group Managing Director Dato’ Sri Dr Haji Irmohizam Ibrahim has been conferred the Influential Leaders of Asia 2026 award, adding another international recognition to his leadership portfolio as Malaysia hosted the programme’s first edition outside India.

The award recognises leaders who demonstrate excellence in leadership, innovation and organisational transformation while creating long-term impact across their industries.

It was presented by YB Dr V. Sivakumar, Chairman of the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau, together with Team Marksmen Network Managing Director Sharad Gupta during the Influential Leaders of Asia 2026 ceremony at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur.

Following five editions in India, Malaysia was selected as the platform’s first international destination, placing Kuala Lumpur at the centre of a broader regional discussion around leadership, business transformation and Asia’s next phase of growth.

The timing also coincides with Malaysia’s Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign and efforts to strengthen the country’s position as a regional destination for tourism, business events and international conferences.

Leadership Through Uncertainty

Before receiving the award, Irmohizam delivered a keynote address titled “The New Asian Playbook: Leading Through Uncertainty, Winning Through Purpose.”

Drawing on his experience leading WTCKL, he highlighted the importance of adaptability, reinvention and clarity of purpose as businesses navigate a more uncertain operating environment.

“Leadership today is not simply about responding to change. It is about having the courage to adapt, the willingness to reinvent and the clarity of purpose to know where we want to go,” he said.

The message reflects the increasingly complex environment facing Asian organisations, where leaders must respond simultaneously to technological disruption, geopolitical uncertainty, shifting customer expectations and more intense competition.

WTCKL Strengthens International Connectivity

Irmohizam’s role extends beyond the management of WTCKL.

He also serves on the Board of Directors of the World Trade Centers Association, headquartered in New York, providing Malaysia with direct representation within a network spanning more than 300 World Trade Centers across nearly 100 countries and territories.

That international connectivity supports WTCKL’s role as a platform for trade, business matchmaking, conferences and cross-border commercial engagement.

WTCKL has positioned itself as one of Malaysia’s key business-events venues, combining exhibition space, conference facilities, serviced offices and trade-related services.

Its role is increasingly relevant as Kuala Lumpur seeks to attract higher-value business travellers, multinational conferences and international events alongside the country’s wider tourism strategy.

Malaysia Builds Business Events Profile

The selection of Malaysia as the first international destination for Influential Leaders of Asia adds to the country’s efforts to strengthen its position in the regional business-events market.

Business events contribute beyond visitor spending.

Conferences, exhibitions and leadership forums can help attract investors, create commercial networks and showcase Malaysia as a location for regional headquarters and corporate activity.

This becomes especially important as neighbouring markets including Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia also compete aggressively for international meetings and exhibitions.

Malaysia’s ability to combine infrastructure, connectivity, hospitality and cost competitiveness could strengthen its position in this segment.

The Ledger Asia Insights

For businesses and investors, the significance of awards such as Influential Leaders of Asia extends beyond individual recognition.

Leadership visibility can strengthen institutional credibility, particularly when executives represent organisations with regional or international ambitions.

In Irmohizam’s case, the recognition also reinforces WTCKL’s position within the broader global World Trade Centers network.

That matters because business-event venues increasingly compete not only on physical facilities but on the strength of their international relationships and ability to connect participants with commercial opportunities.

The timing is also strategically relevant.

Visit Malaysia 2026 provides an opportunity for Malaysia to position business tourism as a higher-value component of its visitor economy.

Unlike leisure tourism, conferences and corporate events can generate spending across hotels, aviation, food and beverage, professional services and transport while also creating longer-term trade and investment relationships.

WTCKL therefore occupies a role that sits at the intersection of hospitality, trade and international business development.

The award itself recognises individual leadership, but the larger story is institutional. Malaysia is attempting to strengthen its profile as a regional destination for business events and cross-border commercial engagement, and leaders capable of converting international networks into economic activity will play an important role in that strategy.
