Seoul, 8 October 2026 – A landmine explosion that injured three South Korean soldiers in September has underscored the growing danger of accidental escalation along the Demilitarised Zone. South Korean and United Nations Command investigations concluded that two mines had been planted by North Korea, an assessment rejected by Pyongyang, leaving the incident embedded in a wider breakdown of trust.
The blast occurred as military communication between the two Koreas remained severely constrained.
