Two Former Investment Bank Officers Charged Over Alleged US$16 Million SBLC Fraud

Two former investment bank employees have pleaded not guilty to charges linked to an alleged US$16 million standby letter of credit transaction processed without proper approval.

Kuala Lumpur, 30 September 2026 – Two former investment bank employees have pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to charges of allegedly deceiving the bank in connection with the issuance of a US$16 million standby letter of credit, equivalent to about RM65 million.

Chia Kian Lim, 40, and Lai Heow Gran, 52, were jointly charged over an alleged transaction involving a standby letter of credit, or SBLC, that was issued in November 2023.
