Seoul, 30 September 2026 – TikTok Korea has removed the account of former singer Ko Young-wook under its policy concerning people convicted of sexual offences against minors, putting the spotlight on how large social platforms enforce safety rules across newly created accounts. The account was taken down on 28 September, a day after its creation became known. The decision applies to Ko, a former member of the group Rula whose criminal record triggered the platform’s rule. His case illustrates how prior conduct can affect access to commercial digital platforms even after a sentence has been served.
The platform said its community guidelines call for permanent suspension of all accounts held by someone confirmed to have committed such an offence, including associated accounts. Ko’s newly created account had been publicised through another social-media service. The quick removal suggests that enforcement can be triggered by public reporting as well as internal detection, but the company did not disclose the precise identity-verification workflow used in this case.
