Kuala Lumpur, 29 September 2026 – Maybank has completed a RM2.5 billion additional Tier 1 sukuk mudharabah issuance, adding a substantial layer of loss-absorbing capital to its funding structure. The transaction is significant less for its headline size alone than for what it says about investor appetite for Malaysian bank capital and the continuing depth of the domestic Islamic debt market.

The perpetual issuance was arranged in three series: RM750 million, RM1.1 billion and RM650 million. Their initial distribution rates are 4.85%, 5.11% and 5.15% a year, respectively. Distributions are scheduled semi-annually, while the first call dates fall in September 2031, September 2033 and September 2036. Those dates give the issuer an option to redeem, subject to the terms and required approvals; they are not contractual maturities.
