The initiative is designed to determine whether corporate statements about physical climate risk translate into practical measures for drought, prolonged heat and pressure on water supplies, with particular relevance to agriculture, utilities and industrial production.
Chairman Mohammad Faiz Azmi said the regulator intends to send letters asking companies for their El Nino plans and to revisit the responses next year. The approach is notable because it focuses on a specific weather threat rather than a broad sustainability framework. It asks boards and management teams to demonstrate readiness through decisions on water use, supply chains, insurance, business continuity and capital expenditure.
